Afghanistan – Country of Contrasts
The issue is of current interest, the exhibits are sensational.
25 years of civil war and Taliban fanatism have almost completely
destroyed the cultural diversity of the once so wealthy Afghanistan.
At the Lokschuppen Rosenheim it is possible to now see Afghanistan´s
cultural assets that have to a large extent vanished – colourfull
garments, precious jewellery, elaborate carpets, rare music instruments.....
Heart-piece of the exhibition is the reconstruction of a basar true
to the original. The jurt of a Turkmeni family, a Pashtunean nomades´goat-skin
tent, the living-room of Nuristan mountain dwellers, and the rooms
of an Afghani clay house lively illustrate the inhabitants´ways
of life.
The exhibiton gives shows the country´s breathtaking beauty,
the diversity of its ethnic groups, the traditional ways of life
and the Afghani art
More than 600 exhibits come from the unique collection of the merchant
family Rahimy from Kabul/Vienna. For generations they traded, collected
and preserved much, thus saving it from destruction.
