Workshops for school classes and kindergartens

From pre-school on:

Snakes and camels
The children make desert animals out of paper: snakes, that “slither” when the wind blows and “endless” camel caravans.

From 1./2. grade on:

Aboriginal belt
The Aborigines in Australia love body ornaments made from plant tissues and materials offered by their environment. The students construct an aboriginal belt from natural materials.

From 3./4. grade on:

Mirage
Due to the glowing heat desert travellers often see illusions. The students “paint” a mirage with different coloured natural sand and make it visible.

From 3./4. grade on:

Compass
“In the east the sun comes up to brighten the sky, in the south it rises up high ...“
The students construct their own compass and learn interesting facts about direction and orientation.

From 4. grade on:

What does rain sound like? The students build a rainmaker using an example taken from the Indians living in the Atacama desert and experiment with the sound of rain.

From 4. grade on:

Desert city
„Sanaa is the goal, no matter how long the journey takes...“
The students paint a Yemenite desert city on burned clay boards. The house facades of the city Sanaa, which are one of the cultural monuments protected by the UNESCO, serve as an example.

From 5. grade on:

Rock engraving
Rock paintings are found in desert areas all over the world. The students engrave typical motives onto limestone and can colour them with natural paints.

From 5./6. grade on:

Sundial
The students construct a sundial with the help of a ruler and a pair of compasses and learn about the theoretical background to it.
