Exhibition 2015: THE RAINFOREST

Date:

2015 March 20th to November 29th

It is one of the most important ecosystems on earth. Although it only covers 7 percent of the world's ice-free land mass, it is home to up to 90 percent of all known zoological and botanical species. The RAINFOREST fascinates people, is home to myths and discoveries of scientists from all over the world.

The Lokschuppen exhibition center in Rosenheim brings the RAINFOREST to Upper Bavaria in a one of a kind, scientifically grounded interactive exhibition. In the “RAINFOREST” exhibition leading scientists combine for the first time their knowledge in the fields of ethnology, ecology, biology, zoology, botany, geology, forestry, remote sensing, climatology and medicine to create an exceptional representation. “RAINFOREST” is an exhibition from the Veranstaltungs + Kongress GmbH Rosenheim in cooperation with the Bavarian Natural History Collections and the Five Continents Museum in Munich and runs from March 20th through November 29th, 2015.

Visitors can look forward to outstanding ethnological and biological exhibits. Other highlights include a jungle sauna, ant terrariums, a tree top trail and a rainforest movie theater. Visitors can also experience first-hand satellite research. Large-scale scenery-staging allows for a unique look into the rainforest ecosystem and interesting facts about the various products consumed by people every day.

Visitors learn about the reasons for deforestation and the consequences of this destruction. Numerous stories about the rainforest and the discoveries of scientists from the beginning/past up to the present make the exhibition an exciting experience. Children are lead through the exhibition with age appropriate explanations on “Amy's Ant Street”.

On the rainforest obstacle course a number of physical challenges await you. You will cross the Amazon, wiggle through vines in the Congo and wrestle a Jaguar.

The museum’s educational team will once again be offering workshops and tours for school classes and preschools. By using the Bavarian school curriculum as a guideline, they create the most unusual classroom in Bavaria.

A diverse holiday program ensures there is something exciting to discover even during the school breaks. Another especially exciting experience is celebrating a children's birthday in the RAINFOREST.

The wide selection of special tours appeal to young and old. Apart from the standard and family tours, there are, among others, the XXL tour, which is longer and more detailed, or the flashlight tour, where participants explore the jungle at night with their flashlights. Gourmets will be sure to get their money's worth with the “RAINFOREST culinary tour”. After an exclusive tour, visitors can look forward to specially selected delicacies from rainforests around the world. With the “Cultural Enjoyment” tour active seniors can take part in a dialogue-based tour with mobile seating arrangements and tour guides for comfortable hearing.

Organiser:

An exhibition from the VERANSTALTUNGS+KONGRESS GmbH Rosenheim in cooperation with the Bavarian Natural Collection (Staatliche Naturwissenschaftliche Sammlungen Bayerns) and the Five Continents Museum (Museum Fünf Kontinente).
